Wood Type Print

As part of the Writing & Publishing program at Okanagan College, in my final year I was tasked to create and print a design using the wooden type available in The Bunker.

My goal with this project was to use transparency to create a variety of shapes and layers using a single piece of type. I wanted to transform a known image into something that was not easily recognizable from first glance.

After experimenting with various pieces of type and colours, and pulling multiple proofs for consideration, I settled on a large number 4.

The various angles of this 4 made it interesting to overlap. I had to determine the math in order to achieve the shown effect.

All of the colours were mixed during the term and all contain various levels of transparency while still keeping each individual layer visible.

Although I experimented with cropping the page, the vastness of the white space on the left helped to anchor the design in its place.
