Handmade Journal

Recycled Journal

In my small press publishing class at OC – Kevin McPherson taught us the ins and outs of bookbinding. This journal was a result of old materials and learning how to sew a cover onto a coptic bind.

There are some obvious issues. The stitching isn’t as tight as I’d want to be as this was more of a problem solving than perfection project.

And somehow in my attempt to connect the cover I skipped the first stitch on my first and second folios?

Either way I’ve had this stitched and sitting in my inventory for a while now.

I’m not sure about anybody else but I always get this feeling that I have to save my journals and only use them for specific things that I haven’t decided on yet. Which results in a myriad of never used journals.

So recently I decided I’m going to keep an everything journal – from small notes to my yearly planner. And I couldn’t think of a better way to start than to use a journal created by own hands.

I’ve started already by cutting scraps from my current mishmash of journals.

Book reviews and scribbled notes

Then I’ve been adding in new planner stuff and appointment lists and goals – all of which I won’t show for personal reasons.

When I made this journal I don’t know what I thought I’d do with it but here we are.

I think once I move past all my currently own journals I might go to specifically only using homemade journals.

The cats seem to like them!
