I’ve been running through some of my old games on my switch and replaying them while my pockets hurt for cash – feeling the absence of enjoyment after rent and utilities take all my currency for their own enjoyment.
I spent a stint playing Fire Emblem Three Houses – thanks to my partner for purchasing the DLC because the Dimitri run was making make want to pull all my hair out. I don’t sympathize with sad angst revenge boys. My hatred for Sasuke is endless. Like I mentioned in my review of The Dragon Republic – I’m a hater till I die. My first FE3H run I did Claude years ago, then I started in Edelgard when I booted back up so I have no patience for Dimitri.
I opened back up Breath of the Wild and Knights of Pen and Paper and then found the endless mode of Flame in the Flood.

I forgot how much I enjoyed Flame in the Flood. I think I’m a rougelike slash survivalist fan. I like resource management. I like multiple options – which is why I also like open worlds. The animation style is fun and unique and the science behind the way everything works is fun and interesting.
It’s Scout and Aesop down the river avoid wolves and bears and starving off exhaustion outrunning the incoming storm.
So I’m enjoying my little playthrough and I’m like heh wonder if these guys made anything else. Two games – Flame in the Flood and a tower defense type called Drake Hollow before being acquired and absorbed into CD Projekt Red *screams internally and externally*.
I was so excited to find a new studio and perhaps open myself up to new games and ofc a big studio swopped in and ruined it all. Took them off the map.
I’m having so much fun starting and restarting endless mode and I so looking forward to finding more games in the same style maybe with similar mechanics.
But such is the nature of the world today. Diversity and originality dying out to big guy names who only want to produce the same thing over and over again. I can’t think of anything similar to Flame in the Flood that has been created by CD Projekt Red and maybe that’s just me not being knowledgeable about the company.
But either way my goal with Flame in the Flood is to hit 100 days (my longest so far is 42) so I’m going to get my replayability out of this game. Currently my Scout is starving because I hit a dry spell with food and keep having to eat cattails so I doubt this will be the run to take me there.
If you’ve ever played Flame in the Flood and have similar games recs lemme know. I’m in my survivalist era.
