The Eco Justice Project
poetry

prayer to is a prose poem written in Bahamian Dialect that seeks to capture both the routine and abnormality of growing up in a place regularly affected by climate disasters. It asks for an escape, where people’s lives don’t have to be put at risk each year, while knowing that if climate change isn’t addressed the future will be grim. A play on the ‘Our Father Prayer’ seemed appropriate as now it feels like the only place to seek help is the powers above our heads.
